Sheet metal roofing is probably the oldest form of single-ply roofing. It is time tested for longevity and its ascetic appeal. Choosing sheet metal roofing for residential, architectural, commercial or industrial applications is good for the environment and cost effective.
Keeping the elements at bay is fundamentally the most important aspect of buildings, with the roof shouldering the lion’s share of the burden. Unfortunately, this responsibility is almost entirely taken for granted in modern American society. Few prospective home or building owners ask about life expectancy, life-cycle cost, leakage rates, or moisture protection of materials for their new roof. However, metal roofs are durable and lightweight for both new and re-roof applications and are growing in popularity.
In fact, standing seam metal roofing can be constructed to meet the highest UL and ASTM performance ratings available for fire protection, resistance to wind uplift, and hail damage. Metal roofing is environmentally friendly—due to its recycleability, recycled material content and solar reflectiveness which results in lower cooling requirements and it will not mildew, split, crack, or curl. Metal is virtually maintenance free and can last 50 years or more. There are also a wide range of material choices and several different panel profile options.
Concealed Fastener Systems
Concealed fastener systems include mechanical lock and snap-lock assembly systems. Lock seam, batten seam, and snap seam are among the most common concealed fastener panels. The lock seam system is truly the top of the line metal roofing system. Lock seam roof systems offer the highest degree of stability and uplift protection. This is essential for areas where wind is a constant concern and to carry structural open spans. Snap lock systems such as batten seam and snap seam are often used in instances where it is installed over a solid substrate or where locked seam systems won’t work such as curved roof surfaces.
Exposed Fastener Systems
Exposed fastener systems are roof systems in which the fasteners penetrate through the metal panel into the substrate. We install these systems using only screws with neoprene washers to improve uplift and weather tightness along with lessening the affects of thermal movement on these systems over time. These systems are often specified for use on commercial, industrial and agricultural applications. Exposed fastener systems can cost up to 40% less than concealed fastener systems and provide the dollar conscious with a long lasting alternative.
